five and 6000 turkeys and hams dinners to those in need. >> the california highway patrol did a maximum enforcement carry it. they had additional patrol and they really some numbers for their first day of what they call their maximum enforcement. which started wednesday as 6:00 p.m.. so far, the highway patrol says the statewide eight people have been killed in fatal collisions this year. chp also says that 262 people have been arrested for driving under the influence. lacher, there were three fatalities and 267 drivers who were charged with d.u.i. eyes. here in the bay area, there have been no fatal accidents and 50 d u i arrest. that's this year. in 2011, there were also no fatalities and 39 people

were charged with driving under the influence. a family in vallejo is looking for the driver, who they said is responsible for killing their grandmother. 88 year-old clementine the few men is died after a hit- and-run accidents. last friday, they really woman was walking home from the store, just a few blocks from her house. that is when the family says, a gold colored car hit her, while she was in the crosswalk, and then drove off. the family wonders if the person responsible feels any remorse. they want him or her to come forward. >> anyone with any information is advised to

>> at least two people are dead after a multi vehicle wreck in southeast texas. it happened yesterday morning along interstate 10 near beaumont, texas. authorities say up to 100 people were transported to area hospitals with injuries. the in a state was shut down for hours in both directions. as you can see, some of the cars are literally crushed. authorities say that there

were no fires, despite gas tanks being ripped off 18 molars on the mass of red. between 5100 vehicles were involved. authorities say foggy driving conditions may have been the cost of a pileup. >> five people are dead this morning after a fire gutted an apartment building in missouri yesterday morning. all the units in the complex were destroyed. city officials have set up community centers to provide emergency services to those who need it. authorities said the cause of the fire is unknown. >> the remains of a rollercoaster that was not offered a new york jersey amusement pier by super storm sandy might be left there as a tourist attraction. officials have not made a decision on whether to tear down the coast. but the mayor says that he's working with the

no contest to a burglary spree across the bay area. he was convicted wednesday in santa clara county superior court on eight felony counts of residential burglary and one felony count of selling stolen property after taking a plea deal. >> oakland police are investigating the 100 and sent homicide in the city. police say they were responding to a call of gunfire when they found a 33 year-old man lying on the sidewalk in east oakland wednesday night. the incident was oakland 100 into, so far this year, the same total for all of 2011. >> it will be a nice one for

early start to the holiday shopping season on this black friday. and stores are hoping that this will boost sales. is estimated that black friday sales will be up nearly 4%. to a $11.4 billion this year. stores all over the bay area opened early last night and clothing stores like wal- mart, target and kmart. some of those early shoppers at wal-mart and san leandro got a taste of the nationwide protesters at the retail giant. last night doors opened at 8:00 and about 30 activists gathered outside the store to protest the early opening. security guards were stationed throughout wal-mart and outside. protesters are scheduled to take place today at wal-mart's in

patrol is out in full force this thanksgiving holiday weekend trying to crack down on drunken driving. they say d.u.i. i arrest in the bay area rose on the first day of the holiday weekend. kron 4 urs charles clifford has the details. >> i'm standing along in a state 80 near the bay bridge toll plaza and the highway patrol has released some numbers for the first day of what they call their maximum enforcement. which started wednesday at 6:00 p.m.. so far the highway patrol says that state why a people have been killed in fatal collisions this year. c h p also says that 262 people have been arrested for driving under the influence. last year there
